UF PRO's Monsoon X: A Hard Shell That Weighs Less Than Your Lunch

On 1 October 2026 UF PRO announced Monsoon X from Komenda — a stretch hard-shell rain jacket and pants aimed at wet ops. Vendor weights: 0.80 kg jacket, 0.60 kg pants (size L). Available from 15 October. Here's what is confirmed, and what still needs field time.

Opening & At a Glance

You're three hours into a wet patrol and the rain shell is winning. Not because it leaks — because it fights you. Stiff laminate. No stretch when you reach for a radio. Hood that turns with the plate carrier instead of your head.

On 1 October 2026, UF PRO — out of Komenda, Slovenia — announced the Monsoon X Tactical Rain Jacket and Tactical Rain Pants. The company calls it its lightest hard-shell rain system: a 3-layer, 2-way stretch laminate, packable, built to sit over body armour and packs. Availability is set for 15 October 2026.

Story Snapshot

  • What shipped (as announcement): Monsoon X Rain Jacket + Rain Pants — lightweight hard-shell system for sustained wet/wind ops (Mehler Systems / UF PRO, 1 Oct 2026).
  • Vendor weights (size L): Jacket 0.80 kg; pants 0.60 kg.
  • Construction claim: 3-layer laminate with 2-way stretch; waterproof, windproof, breathable (vendor wording).
  • Availability: From 15 October 2026, per the press materials.

What Happened, in Plain English

UF PRO framed Monsoon X around a simple trade: keep full rain protection, cut weight and bulk, add stretch so the shell moves with you. Head of R&D Dejan Kastelic said rain protection should not get in the way of the job. Marketing line. The feature list underneath is more specific.

The jacket gets long ventilation openings — heat dump plus access to kit underneath — a helmet-compatible hood with UF PRO's Hood/Harness® system, and removable air/pac® shoulder inserts for backpacks and plate carriers. The pants are overpants: full-length side zippers so you can pull them on without removing boots, a modified Waist/Flex system with detachable suspenders, adjustable hems, and boot hooks. Packable construction matters if the shell lives in a ruck until the weather turns.

Soldier Systems Daily carried the same press package on 2 October. None of that is independent lab testing. It is a controlled launch brief.

Why a Lighter Shell Still Has to Earn Trust

Hard-shell rain kit sits in an awkward slot. Go too light and durability becomes the rumour. Go too stiff and people leave it in the vehicle. Stretch laminates have been the industry answer for a few seasons; Monsoon X is UF PRO's bet that end users will notice the weight — under a kilo for the jacket in L, per their sheet — without giving up the over-armour, over-boot workflow.

My take, labelled as opinion: the feature list reads like it was written by people who have worn a shell over a plate carrier in sideways rain. Vent zips that reach kit. Hood that tracks the head. Boot hooks. Those are not catalogue filler if the construction holds up. I will not crown it "best in class" from a press release. Waterproof and breathable claims need sweat, abrasion, and a few wash cycles before they mean much outside the showroom.

There is a brand-side angle too. Tactical apparel lives on trust and name recognition as much as denier counts. We have covered how much of a business sits in a name — see our note on the AI.com sale and what founders should actually pay for a brand. Different vertical, same pressure: if you sell gear for hostile weather, the name has to belong next to the kit.

Questions Readers Are Likely to Ask

Is Monsoon X shipping now? The announcement says available from 15 October 2026. That is a vendor date, not a guarantee of stock in every channel on day one.

Do the weights include suspenders and inserts? The press materials give size-L figures for the jacket and pants. They do not break out accessories. Treat 0.80 / 0.60 kg as stated garment weights until a packing list says otherwise.

Is this PFAS-free? The launch brief we reviewed does not address PFAS or DWR chemistry. Do not assume either way from silence.

Closing & Sources

Confirmed from UF PRO / Mehler Systems on 1 October 2026: Monsoon X is a jacket-and-pants hard-shell rain system with stated size-L weights of 0.80 kg and 0.60 kg, a 3-layer 2-way stretch laminate story, and a 15 October availability date. Waterproof and "lightest in range" claims are the company's. Independent durability numbers were not in the launch package. If you buy early, buy for the cut and the workflow features — then decide after a wet season whether the laminate earns the press.
